In General
All the testing carried out by J. M. Patman is based on the IEE Code of Practice. This code of practice gives advice on in-service inspection and testing, and ensures that all electrical equipment is fit for continued service or replacement.
Regular inspection of equipment is an essential part of any preventive maintenance programme. Practical experience of the use of equipment and the conditions prevailing may indicate an adjustment to the frequency at which preventive maintenance needs to be carried out.
This is a matter for judgement of the responsible person, who should seek all the information needed to make a judgement including reference to the manufacturer’s guidance notes.
Records of maintenance including test results should be kept throughout the working life of the electrical equipment this enables: - The condition of the equipment to be monitored
- The effectiveness of the maintenance policies that are in place
- Demonstrate that an effective maintenance system is in place
All electrical systems and equipment should be maintained, or danger would otherwise arise.
Portable Appliance Testing is a method of inspecting and testing electrical appliances in a systematic and regular programme in order to reduce the risk of using defective or dangerous appliances.
The IEE Code of Practice states: Those carrying out the inspection and testing must be competent. A competent person is someone who processes the sufficient technical knowledge or experience to undertake testing of electrical equipment and appliances and have due regard of their own safety and that of others. |
